Training: An Overview of SSI/SSD Benefits

This training provides an overview of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits administered by the Social Security Administration. Participants will learn the key differences between SSI and SSD, including financial and work history requirements, immigration considerations, and how disability is defined.

The session covers the application process, the five-step disability determination framework used by SSA, required medical evidence, and common reasons for denial. Participants will also review the appeals process, important deadlines, hearing options, and strategies for supporting clients through adverse decisions.

By the end of the training, attendees will have practical tools to help clients navigate the SSI/SSD system and advocate more effectively on their behalf.
