Training: Housing Options for Shelter Residents

This training will present information about housing options for shelter residents of NYC, including:

  • Identify key housing options available to shelter residents, including permanent supportive housing, public housing, rental assistance programs and rapid rehousing

  • Explain eligibility criteria and application processes for major NYC housing programs, and recognize common barriers residents may face when assessing them

  • Differentiate the roles of healthcare providers and community based professionals in supporting shelter residents through the housing placement process.

  • Apply practical strategies to connect individuals to appropriate housing resources, including making referrals, coordinating care and advocating for clients in NYC systems.
